Now the LORD will be more than glad to destroy you and wipe you out. You will be torn out of the land you're about to enter and take possession of."

Wouldn't the modern successful and prosperous existence of the state of Israel falsify it?Spaceman98https://www.blogger.com/profile/05878265582649592972noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5280859063172902928.post-44860543100303194232014-02-26T09:54:37.257+02:002014-02-26T09:54:37.257+02:00The claim that "The prophesy that no one will...The claim that "The prophesy that no one will ever try to fabricate that a similar mass-God-experience occurred, or create a rumor similar to the Sinai Event, and also claimed to live through the experience. So Deut 4:32-33 remains fulfilled to this day." Is untrue as far as I can tell (though maybe I misunderstand something?).

For example, Greek Mythology offers us the story of the foundation of Athens, in which: "Athena became the patron goddess of the city of Athens after a competition with Poseidon. Yet Poseidon remained a numinous presence on the Acropolis in the form of his surrogate, Erechtheus.[2] At the dissolution festival at the end of the year in the Athenian calendar, the Skira, the priests of Athena and the priest of Poseidon would process under canopies to Eleusis.[25] They agreed that each would give the Athenians one gift and the Athenians would choose whichever gift they preferred. Poseidon struck the ground with his trident and a spring sprang up; the water was salty and not very useful,[26] whereas Athena offered them an olive tree.

The Athenians or their king, Cecrops, accepted the olive tree and along with it Athena as their patron, for the olive tree brought wood, oil and food. After the fight, infuriated at his loss, Poseidon sent a monstrous flood to the Attic Plain, to punish the Athenians for not choosing him. " (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poseidon#The_foundation_of_Athens)
As far as I understand, this event was suppose to have happened in view of all of the city's inhabitants.

Also, the Deuteronomy passage you cited was written as a warning, hence why it was written despite being so apparently unfavorable. It basically told the people "if you disobey us (the priests), these terrible things will happen to you, so don't disobey", and as we see, fear is a very strong form of social control. Also, a lot of its prophecies, as you have cited them, have failed to come true.

The following passages from the warning have (thankfully) not occurred:
"Deu 28:22 The LORD will strike you with disease, fever, and inflammation; heat waves, drought, scorching winds, and ruined crops. They will pursue you until you die.
Deu 28:23 The sky above will look like bronze, and the ground below will be as hard as iron.
Deu 28:24 The LORD will send dust storms and sandstorms on you from the sky until you're destroyed."
These passages seem to predict that the Jews will be exiled primarily to desert areas, which didn't happen. The exiles were rarely threatened with sandstorms, and the sky never looked like Bronze. Instead, they were deported as slaves to areas around the Mediterranean, where there were no sandstorms, though plenty of other horrors and hardships.

"Deu 28:28 The LORD will strike you with madness, blindness, and panic."
Didn't happen, as far as I know.

"Deu 28:44 They will be able to make loans to you, but you won't be able to make loans to them."

Overall, it seems to me that Deuteronomy threw prophecies at the wall, for various terrible things that could (and often did, at that time also) happen to the people of a conquered nation. Many of them did happen to the Jews, though their fate was not unprecedented (see the Roma, who wander Europe still and were also victims of the holocaust http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roma_people, or Native Americans, who have preserved their unique culture despite facing persecution, occupation, destruction and disease).Spaceman98https://www.blogger.com/profile/05878265582649592972noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5280859063172902928.post-18649900630169422322010-08-15T00:19:33.352+03:002010-08-15T00:19:33.352+03:00The last 2 verses of the curses were not included,...The last 2 verses of the curses were not included, verses 67 & 68. 67 "In the morning you shall say 'Oh, that it were evening!' And at evening you shall say, 'Oh, that it were morning!' because of the fear which terrifies your heart, and because of the sight which your eyes see. 68 "And YHWH will take you back to Egypt in ships, by the way of which I said to you, 'You shall never see it again.' And there you shall be offered for sale to your enemies as male and female slaves, but no one will buy you." If all the curses of the prophecy of Deut 28 have occurred, please explain when this event happened.Search the Scriptureshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09393980279500255085noreply@blogger.com
